Kyphoplasty

Kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure which is used to treat painful compression fractures in the thoracic or lumbar spine. It may be an option if you have sudden onset of severe, unrelenting back pain and are having difficulty performing normal activates of daily living. The goals of kyphoplasty are rapid and sustained pain relief, increased mobility and ability to perform normal activates of daily living, and improved quality of life.

Kyphoplasty is usually performed in our in-office x-ray suite using IV sedation and local anesthetics for numbing. Most of the time it takes about 45 minutes to complete the procedure. More detailed information will be provided to you if your doctor recommends this treatment. That information will including risks vs. benefits, potential side effects, and post-procedure instructions.
